INTRO

***********************

Hey, we made it to Issue #2! Thanks for all the positive comments we have received on the reemergence of the Salty Wheel. We will continue to provide you a stripped down, nothing-but-the-facts, e-mail-based newsletter that will help communicate newsworthy facts related to our club. It may not be pretty, but it will have vital information on what is happening in our beloved Marathon Rotary Club.

If you would like to contribute articles or tidbits of interest, please e-mail them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please put “Rotary Newsletter Submission” in the Subject line so it gets to the right place. Have a great holiday season!

UPCOMING SERVICE PROJECTS

************************

Thanks to Karen Goodwin for all her work coordinating our projects. Here is her report…

Recently Finished projects

The Pigeon Key project was not a great success as only 4 people showed up and the building was prepped and primed but only one side was completed.

Upcoming projects

· The Salvation Army bell ringing is quickly approaching. We are scheduled to “ring the bell” 11/23/07.

· The End of Hurricane Season John Bartus Birthday Bash is scheduled for 6 pm Saturday, Nov 24th at the amphitheatre.

· The annual Toyz for Keyz Kidz drive is in full swing and any donations should be given to Bob. As he has stated the Dept can purchase toys at a reduced rate so they are able to get more with the funds and any amount is appreciated. Volunteers will be needed to collect and distribute toys.

· Due to the holidays, no projects were scheduled in December

· The January project is scheduled to be a project at Crane Point which will consist of removing exotics from parts of the property.

Announcements

Habitat For Humanity is currently clearing out the property on 64th St for their newest home in Marathon. They are looking for volunteers to help clear the property of unwanted vegetation. If anyone would like to volunteer they can use all the hands available. They are going to be at the property in the afternoons after 4pm and on the weekend all day.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

*************************

Outbound 2008

There were no applicants for next year. It is being explored whether we can host without having an Outbound student. Stay tuned…

Host Family

We are still in need of a host home for Matteo for February through May. You can host for the two or all four months. Dates are flexible and the cultural exchange is priceless. Matteo is from Sardinia, Italy and is a great, mild mannered young man. Don’t miss this opportunity. ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH

*************************

November is Rotary Foundation Month. Contribute to the Annual Programs Fund, and you’ll help guarantee that the Foundation’s educational and humanitarian programs are available to more people than ever.

Read more in the November chair’s message from Robert S. Scott, Foundation trustee chair.

CLUB’S FINANCIALS

*************************

A humongous thanks for Marlene Morato for cleaning up our books and her frankness in addressing our financial situation. We are moving in a positive direction and she is a big part of that!

From Marlene…

To all club members:

In an effort to keep everyone apprised of the Club’s financial position you will be receiving financial information on a quarterly basis.

To facilitate payment of quarterly dues we can process credit cards so that you don’t have to write a check.

There has been some confusion regarding our tax-exempt status. We are a tax-exempt organization, but we are not a charitable organization. Therefore, monies that we receive are not eligible for charitable donation status. We also need to collect and pay sales tax. If you have any questions regarding this information please feel free to contact me via phone 743-4599 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Sincerely,

Marlene C. Morato, Club Treasurer
