PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

***********************

This month's Rotarian stresses, among other things, the significance of "the development for acquaintance as an opportunity for service". It reminded me of the importance of our club's activities. Not only are our activities beneficial for those OUTSIDE the club, but they are beneficial to those on the inside as well. We've all pulled together to make our club meetings fun, informative, friendly, and engaging in ways that encourage participation. When we work hard together, not only do we accomplish great things, we also create bonds between ourselves that will last a lifetime.

As a young Rotarian, I was reminded that it is largely participation that brands one as Rotary material. We may have heard this a hundred times, but the statement that the more you put into Rotary, the more you get out of Rotary, holds firm. The more we all put into our Rotary Club, the stronger our club becomes, the better our community becomes, and hopefully, the world is just a little better because of our efforts. Isn't that why we all joined Rotary anyway?

Yours in Rotary Service,

Dave Kaplan

NEW MEMBERS

************************

Please welcome our new members! Ann O’Bannon and Matthew Falk both joined since our last newsletter. Welcome aboard and we look forward to using your talents and resources to help our community!

Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to one of our members, Bruce Summer. He had to move out of the Keys. You will be missed!

SPEAKERS FOR FEBRUARY

************************

Thanks to Theo Derleth for arranging the speakers for February.

February 20 Katie Greenman/Interact

February 27 WLRN/NPR

Nautical Flea Market

************************

The Nautical Flea Market will be at Founder’s Park February 23rd and 24th. It is put on by the Upper Keys Rotary Club and they have graciously allowed us to have a spot there for no charge. We need your donations to sell at the event. There will be over 10,000 people there, so if you think it will sell, please donate it. It doesn’t necessarily need to be nautical to be a good seller.

Dennis Turcotte has volunteered to help pick up donations if needed. Call Dennis at 731 0507 to schedule a pick-up. Donations can be dropped off before the event to the Crane Point Hammock admin building or the main branch of Orion Bank (the one by the Chamber).

We also need help for setup on Friday and running the booth on Sunday. To sign up, call Keith Douglass at 393 2438.

UPCOMING SERVICE PROJECTS

************************

Thanks to Karen Goodwin for all her work coordinating our projects. Here is her report…

Due to the weather cancellation of work at Pigeon Key, another date to finish painting will be announced at the next Rotary meeting. THIS NEEDS TO BE FINISHED. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am working on a project at Crane Pointe to remove exotics from specified areas. Date/time TBA.

Relay for Life always welcomes any help with set up and tear down of booths/stages. We will discuss further as the date approaches.

Nautical Flea market – next weekend.

Big Band Concert – March 2nd. Sign up sheets are forthcoming.

Easter Festival – March 22nd , details to follow but we will need volunteers and supplies.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

Matteo

We have found a host home for Matteo for February through May. Thanks to non-Rotarians Amedeo and Lynn D’Ascanio for opening their homes to this great opportunity!

I still encourage you to take some time and meet Matteo. Take him to dinner, out fishing, or to the beach. The cultural exchange is priceless. Matteo is from Sardinia, Italy and is a great, mild mannered young man. Don’t miss this opportunity!
